Physical Activities Community Education

P.A.C.E

The Prodigal Son Foundation’s goal is to strengthen the community by empowering, educating and engaging students. We see this possibility becoming a reality everyday for students through our Leadership Academy, Sugar Creek Learning Center and Physical Activities Community Education program (P.A.C.E.).

The Prodigal Son Foundation was awarded the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. We plan to implement comprehensive, integrated physical activity and nutrition programs for students. The funding will be used for the P.A.C.E. program to expand and enhance physical education and nutrition education programs.

We are implementing programs that help students make progress toward meeting their state standards for physical education. In addition, we are 1) providing instruction for healthy eating habits and good nutrition, 2) physical fitness activities and 3) equipment for students to be active.

The Prodigal Son Foundation is committed to ensuring that students fulfill their full potential to become productive leaders. It is our hope that we convey the seriousness which we take this responsibility. We ask that you as leaders in the community help us create awareness, make connections and engage your colleagues and friends in a way that supports our current students and ultimately position us to serve kids. We’re confident that you’ll share our excitement about the Prodigal Son Foundation continued development and the impact it is having on our community.

We hope you will become part of the Prodigal Son Foundation family.

Sincerely,

The purpose of the program is to establish a 21st Century Community Learning Center that provides students with academic enrichment opportunities along with activities designed to complement the students’ regular academic program. Sugar Creek 21st CCLC offers families of participating students educational development opportunities. The Center provides a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development. These services include, but are not limited to, tutoring and mentoring, homework assistance, academic enrichment (such as hands-on science and technology programs), community service opportunities, music, art, sports, and cultural activities. The Center also provides a safe environment for students during after-school hours.

The program provides opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students meet State and local student performance standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics; offers students a broad array of additional services, programs and activities, such as youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, recreation programs, technology education programs and character education programs that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and offers families of students served by Sugar Creek 21st CCLC opportunities for math, science, and literacy related educational development.
